Infographic – a picture is worth a thousand words
The infographic below is a great tool to inspire you to write more. It’s the one thing that counts when you’re a blogger. Creating great content for your readers to get them coming back for more is a constant challenge. In my experience people can be lazy when browsing blogs. Unless you capture their imagination and get to the answer they are looking for quickly they can easily shoot off somewhere else.
Videos and images do help the ‘stickiness’ of your blog. People stay around for longer. With many clients I’m finding that an infographic is a useful tool to deliver great content in a visual way. So it was a stroke of luck (well, actually I found it on Twitter!) to find this excellent infographic from copyblogger.com looking at creating great, compelling content.
Take some ideas from the infographic below and let me know how you intend to create great content for you blog.

Creating an infographic like this takes quite a lot of thought, pre-planning, use of graphics software and an eye for design. There is a reasonably priced bit of graphicssoftware called Pixelmator (only for Mac) which you could use for something like this but apparently the new version is being given some poor reviews.
Photoshop is really expensive so you might have to get a friendly graphics designer to help you out.
There are some graphics programs for PC but I don’t know much about them apart from Windows Publisher
An Elance or Odesk situation perhaps!

Copyblogger rules! These infographics are the best and most eye catching I’ve personally ever seen online. Everytime I spot one, I will read it from start to finish and that’s saying something because sometimes I swear I have ADD……….wait……what was I saying?! ; )

Infographics can make you go blind when they’re really busy and can be downright confusing. As you say this one flows nicely and reads well. Even those of us with short attention spans can get though this one

Write about what you know and write about what moves you. People will see that what you have to say is genuine and that you actually care. Then they will engage with you, and that’s what you’re looking for: engagement.

whoa… I really learned a lot here. You explained it in a simple yet entertaining well. I love the approach in general. There were times that I was running out of ideas on what to post. My friends thought I went on a hiatus already but the real thing is , i simply don’t have anything interesting to post.
Well, honestly, you gave me not just one but a bunch of ideas now. I’m actually thinking of reposting my old entries. Web traffic is not my priority right now. I just want to keep my blogs updated regularly. I’m afraid that if I will continuously run out of interesting topic to post, i will eventually loss my motivation to blog. Cheer! So happy to be here. Thank you for the tips.

Hey thanks for the great comment Alex – so glad to help out and get you going again. Remember too that done is better than perfect. The more you write the more you get into flow. Just make sure you write about something you are passionate about and spin it in different ways. Video is now a great way to engage your audience – that’s my next adventure

Infographics are definitely the in thing now. I love them. They are far more interesting and effective than a video and allows you to inject your creativity to a far higher degree as well.

Yes they are definitely catching on – I produced one for my partner’s site at Work from Home Wisdom on setting up a home office. Made with a nifty little piece of software called Piktochart.

This is one of the better infographics I’ve seen. As a visual person, I find this sort of thing captures my attention much more than plain text. Even though the infographic takes a bit of time to get all the way through, I couldn’t keep my eyes off it. I think another good tip when you get stuck for ideas is to “Go back to the basics”. When you know a lot about a subject it can be easy to skip over the basics and forget that there are other people who don’t know the stuff you probably take for granted on a daily basis. Doing a small tutorial on something basic can be really helpful at times.

Thanks for your great comment Derek. I think you are spot on when you say that you can get carried away writing a blog post and miss the basics. With an infographic you have to be succinct and, although you feel a bit like teaching grandmas to suck eggs, you need to remember that it’s easy to lose less informed readers by going too deep.

Great tips here! I agree that when you aren’t sure what to write about, choosing a product or service that you have used and writing a review or opinionated piece can make all the difference.

That’s so true Lawrence and once you start to get a name for yourself you can ask companies to provide you with products to review. If you get it right then they may even send you stuff to review.
YouTube is a good place for that – there’s a crazy young kid who does games reviews who gets over hundreds of thousands of reviews so companies are queuing up to give him stuff. Can’t find him on YouTube at the moment – he may have a proper job by now
